It may not be a stigma, but its too many people living too close together. the walls are too thin. There is really no way you can feel completely independent and alone. Parking is always a problem and you cannot choose your neighbors.

I tend to think of condos as expensive, so in my mind, no. However, I think apartments have a stigma to some degree; living in one seems to have a become a statement of not being able to purchase a home or a condo, although it is not always true.

Not necessarily. Sometimes the only differance between a condo and a townhouse is a legal piece of paper incorporating the condo association. If there's a stigma, it probabkly has more to do with the real estate itself, rather than the legal status.
