  • Every car has a variety of warning lights on the dashboard that make you aware of what is wrong with the vehicle. Although they give you an indication of what might need to be taken care of, it is always advisable to check with your dealer for confirmation and repair, if needed.

    Oil

The oil indicator lighting up can mean either one of two things: the oil pressure is low or the car needs an oil change.

    Temperature

The illumination of the temperature indicator means that the engine is overheating. Usually, turning off the engine to let it cool off gets rid of the problem.

    Brakes

An illuminated brake light could mean brake failure or insufficient brake fluid, or it could be as simple as the parking brake being left on. Cars with ABS (antilocking system) brakes also have an ABS indicator that lights up when there is a problem with the antilock feature of the brakes, not the brakes in general.

    Air Bag

Illumination of the air bag indicator means that there is something wrong with the air bag system. In such an instance, air bags might not deploy during a car crash.

    Check Engine

The dashboard warning light that drivers are perhaps most familiar with, the "Check Engine" light, could mean a variety of problems concerning the engine and transmission, ranging from the relatively frivolous to the potentially catastrophic.
