The GMC Envoy was General Motors' marquee luxury sport utility vehicle. Introduced in 1998, the Envoy was discontinued after the 2009 model year. It earned high marks for its performance in power and towing capacity.
Power
The standard 2009 Envoy featured the 291-horsepower 4.3-liter inline-6 engine and the high-end Denali model was equipped with a 302-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8, according to Edmunds.com.
Towing Capacity
The GMC Envoy powered by the inline-6 had a towing capacity of 5,800 lbs., while the V-8 version could haul 6,600 lbs.
Fuel Efficiency
The Envoy performed mediocre in overall gas mileage, with 14 mpg achieved in the city and 20 on the highway, although the V-8 was engineered to shut off four cylinders under certain conditions for 15/21 mpg.
Interior
The Envoy was roomy, but road and engine noise had a tendency to seep into the interior. Cornering was sluggish, according to thecarconnection.com.
Handling
According to "U.S. News & World Report," the GMC Envoy's overall handling performance suffered from lack of rear independent suspension and heavy body roll on curves.
Speed
The 2009 Envoy hit 0-60 mph in 7.3 seconds and the quarter mile in 15.5 seconds at 93 mph, according to cars.com.
