Even if you own graphic design software like Photoshop or Illustrator, it can be a bit complicated to use if you don't have prior knowledge of the program. Fortunately, there are free design sites that will help you design flowers directly online. ImaginationCubed.com is a kid-friendly and easy-to-use drawing-board site that allows any adult or child to design flowers, as well as other shapes and simple landscapes, in a visually appealing manner. It can be used to demonstrate a design online or to email or print.

Features

The top menu "tools" tab gives you the option of drawing with a pen, shapes, a stamper or lines. There is also a text tool with different font-size options. When you select which tool to design with, a separate options box is located at the top right, allowing you to choose a different color, size or texture. For instance, the pen tool has many style options available, including "feather," "chaos," "splatter" and "blobs." For guidelines or to make more exacting designs, use a grid in the background. Under the "File" tab, simply choose "grid on." If you mess up, you can erase your last step by clicking the "Undo" tab. To erase everything on the page, click on the "Clear" tab. Designs

To make a pre-made flower, choose the stamper tool and select the flower stamp. Change the size (tiny to huge) and color according to your preference. To create a style that is free form and organic, use the pen tool. To make flowers using the shapes tool, choose the circle shape and select a color. Click on the whiteboard, and drag out a circle for the flower's center. Then choose another color, and create circles all around the flower's center to form a basic flower. Add a stem using the line tool. For more complex designs, keep a flower picture handy and try to imitate the design using the available tools.

Software

If you're looking for a graphics program to download and use with your kids, TuxPaint.org is an open-source site that provides free computer art software for children. It's fun and easy to use, and entertaining sound effects are played when the tools are selected and used. Tux Paint has received many positive reviews, including from "Macworld" and "Mothers Matter" magazines. The children's graphic program is also being used in many schools.
