Alzheimer's disease is an incurable and unpreventable disease. Currently, there are checklists that patients and caregivers may follow that detail the most common symptoms of the disease. However, only a medical professional may diagnose Alzheimer's Disease.
Memory Loss
Memory loss is perhaps the most common sign of Alzheimer's, especially short-term memory loss. Another sign is asking the same question over and over.
Challenges With Problem Solving
Some patients may have trouble developing a plan. Difficulty concentrating may also be a symptom.
Confusion With Time or Place
Losing track of time, including the passing of seasons or not knowing how they got to the place they are, is also a red flag.
Problems With Words in Speaking or Writing
Engaging in conversation may pose some difficulty for Alzheimer's patients. Calling things by their wrong name is also typical.
Poor Judgement
People with Alzheimer's may make poor decisions in regards to handling money or with personal hygiene.
Changes in Mood or Personality
According to the Alzheimer's Association, people with Alzheimer's "can become confused, suspicious, depressed, fearful or anxious. They may be easily upset at home, at work, with friends or in places where they are out of their comfort zone."
