Early Identification
The club in 1960 defined an antique car as any production car or truck built in 1935 or before, with a 1948 cutoff date for luxury cars, according to aaca.org.

As time passed, more vehicles were included in the antique automobile definition, ultimately concluding that vehicles 25 years or older are antiques.
State Endorsements
Most states now have antique automobile license plates for vehicles 25 years and older. These are eligible to receive the historic license plate designation.

The 1965 Ford Mustang may be an antique under AACA rules, but experienced collectors limit antique identification to cars produced between world wars I and II.
Antique Versus Vintage
