  • Stars are gigantic balls of flaming gas and as such the temperature of stars is quite high. Current technology has nothing that would not be incinerated by the time it got inside the actual atmosphere of the star. In other words, it isn't possible. As for mining other planets or asteroids, the technology is either available to us now or will be inside of 50 years, but the estimated costs are so prohibitive that it won't be happening anytime soon. For instance, there has been talk about mining Mars or the Moon for water deposits and bringing them back to the earth to increase the supply of fresh water. But the costs involved just in transporting the water back to earth don't make the project even remotely feasible for the time being.
  • On the contrary, when nanotechnology gains great momentum and other future technological breakthroughs in the durability of materials come to pass, then it might be possible. Even if mining technology reaches the point that a human could safely man the cockpit of a mining vessel inside the sun, we'll still play it safe either doing it by remote control, or have sentient, autonomous androids do the lifting for us. Yes, it may be possible, but when we make a new material that withstands better than the Sun's temperatures, and keeps the inside of mining vessels hospitable and cool. God knows when this will happen, but I certainly won't see this technological advance anytime soon.
  • Interesting. It is possible that we may be able to do this one day, but, I highly doubt a human will ever physically do it. It will be more like a human controlling some sort of robotic mining tool. Pretty cool actually. Theres lots of stuff out there for us to " get our hands on" .
