They are most always placed there by a group called the Gideons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/gideons... Gideons International is an evangelical Christian organization dedicated to distributing copies of the Bible (in either the King James Version or the New King James Version in the United States, but other translations in over 80 languages in more than 180 countries of the world) to those who might not otherwise encounter it, most famously in hotel rooms. The organization was founded in 1899 in Boscobel, Wisconsin as one of the first parachurch organizations dedicated to Christian evangelism. It began distributing free Bibles, the work it is chiefly remembered for, in 1908, when the first Bibles were placed in the rooms of the Superior Hotel in Iron Mountain, Michigan.[1] In addition, this practice has inspired other religious organizations to distribute their sacred texts in similar fashion, such as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with the Book of Mormon.

but you can find salvation in the Webster's dictionary

so you can turn to god after sex. the bible is free.i'm sure you are missing a bible home but have the other books. see,god knows what you want.
-
It's too bad such "distributors" don't include a pamphlet to let people know god is full of love for EVERYONE! Belonging to or accepting a religous way of life is not the only path to Redemption.
-
that would be more sense. I actually stayed in a hotel in LA once and my room had the Buddha-Darhma in the drawer instead of the Bible.

It's just another crusade to get 'god' into people's heads where they can. Although, when you have no rolling papers, the pages are thin enough that you can tear one out and roll a joint with it.
-
It's always struck me as irrational.. i mean a dictionary or encyclopedia would have more practical use that's for sure..
-
Because a dictionary or encyclopedia will be stolen.
