  • Because you don't live in the South where tree's don't make anual messess for us to clean up.
  • We do this because it is less messy I suppose. Who wants a bunch of old crinkly leaves all over the place? I for one would not.
  • Because if you don't rake them up, you run an increased risk of getting a bunch of moss in your lawn which is a pain in the but to get rid of (and its ugly).
  • It's like a competition. Guess what day the township will collect the piles and hurry up and rake up your leaves. Then people stand inside their doors and laugh at the neighbors piles that blow all over on days that the township doesn't pick up.
  • The piles of rotting leaves will kill the tender shoots of grass. It is also said that ticks like to hide in the piles of leaves.
  • Because in the other seasons, they're still on the tree or non-existent.
  • It satisfies some burning desire we all have within ourselves to scratch the face of the earth and declare our dominion over the leaves.
  • because it kills your grass if you have too many leaves piled on the ground
  • Too many leaves harms the grass. Mold and fungus forms over time. Not too many people like dealing with that. What I think people forget, though, is that leaves over the ground can be rather beneficial. Those leaves were from the earth in the first place. They'll just decompose and add nutrients to the soil if given the chance, and mowing over them will speed that process up, as well as lessen the chances of them blowing since they'll be so fine and close to the ground in between the grass blades. I mean go out to a meadow with trees around, in the summer, and look at that grass. It should be rather healthy, thick, sturdy, and strong (if in a healthy environment and climate to support it). My source for this is Acing Horticulture in high school . . . twice ;) Not many know this. So they just do it because others do it. Good question :)
  • Because they're harder to rake under the snow. :)
  • Because they make such a dreadful mess.
  • So me and the Lil Baxter Waxters can jump in them of course")
  • Because society says we should. I usually put them in my garden so they can give my plants some extra nutrients.
  • Have you ever tried to rake leaves in January? That's why. : )
