I'd like to know who told you this nonsense. It's like being told that if you play a particular (usually rock) song backwards at a particular speed then you can hear the devil telling you to do something bad. These are what we call "Urban legends", or "Urban myths". They are stories that people tell you to scare you a little. Sometimes they even claim that something bad happened to a friend of a friend, or "I met this guy at a bar, and he told me that....". If you already have a propensity for mental disorders then you may (very, very slight chance) be pushed over the edge by partaking of an occurance that you believe will harm you, but the act itself won't harm you - it'll be your brain processes that harm you. In reality, if you use an aid to pleasure, that aid will aid your pleasure. It will NOT grow into some alien that takes over your mind and forces you to go on a killing rampage.

No. Historically, people have been uncomfortable openly discussing sexuality and sex in general. It embarrasses them to talk about it, so they come up with creative ways to avoid it. They associate it with completely untrue negative consequences such as hairy palms, blindness, mental illness, and immorality. The only POSSIBLE side effect from using such a device is loss of sensitivity from overstimulation.

No masturbating & achieving orgasm WILL NOT cause mental illness...
-
The first masturbation toys were used by ancient doctors as a cure for dementia.

Masturbation usually has a positive net effect on mental health, providing it isn't done to excess.
