  • Don't do the petition, stay within the laws if you're not going to look them up. If you want to spred awareness, pass out leaflets and flyers in front of the town board building. Picket with signs. Get a bullhorn. But don't do anything illegal. +5
  • It is not illegal to start a petition, but the petition may not have any legal significance without board member action.
  • I cant see how starting a petition could be against the law, we're not in Soviet Russia after all. It's probably against the town boards rules but that doesn't make it illegal.
  • Of course it is not illegal. A petition is not a legal document, it has no legal status and does not require anybody's permission to start one. It is just a way of people telling their representatives what they think. Since it has no legal status, representatives have no duty to pay attention to it, either.
  • TIME TO VOTE THAT JERK OUT!!!!!!!!!! AND THE REST OF THEM JUST FOR GOOD MEASURE. YOU GET ANOTHER PETITION GOING FOR TERM LIMITS. ONLY 2 TERMS IN A ROW OR 3 TERMS IN A LIFETIME. BREAK UP BOARD INTO 3 PARTS (9-3/3/3) SO NO VOTING BLOCK CAN DEVELOP.
  • The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads in part: "Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to PETITION THE GOVERNMENT for a redress of greivances" Almost all states have similar language in their constitutions, and even if they don't the 14th amendment extended the 1st to the states.
