If the evidence is so overwhelming for global warming why did top scientists feel the need to falsify data to support it, as in the climategate episode?

Because they are human and have probably made some mistakes.

Global warming is NOT real. Scientists have said that hundreds of years ago the same thing happened. Do not believe it.

I think you had better look into that story. If you read it all you will find that what was taken from the emails was taken out of context. Do you really feel that the amount of CO2 that is emitted by man make machines has no effect? Global climate change is not going to happen overnight. But little by little with the amount of greenhouse gases that we are producing there can be no doubt.

Because the evidence is not so overwhelming without all the falsification and hyperbole. It is possible that global warming is occurring, but it is far from a scientific certainty.

Good question. I'd say that they only had to falsify the data because it is junk science. There is a LOT of money involved with this scam and they not only had to change the name from Global Warming to Climate Change but also skew the data to support their opinions.

sadly the evidency for human contribution to global warming and eventual destruction of this fragile planetary atmosphere is solid. The trends since the start of the industrial revolution are clear. The people who wish to deny that we are ruining the climate are those with vested interests in retaining the old fashioned, polluting heavy industry. They want to pump more poison into the atmosphere and stay wealthy. Any they will pay any scientist any amount to support their position.

The people who wish to deny that we are ruining the climate are those with vested interests in retaining the old fashioned, polluting heavy industry. They want to pump more poison into the atmosphere and stay wealthy. And they will pay any scientist any amount to support their position. Short sighted people with selfish views to personal enrichment are preventing the truth that we are destroying this fragile planets atmosphere. The evidence is there - ignore it at your cost and your childrens cost.

A single small group got carried away with what they saw as a noble cause being obstructed by fools and commercial interests. I do not condone what they were planning to do, but it is very human for people who have deep belief in what they are doing.
