Apples and oranges, as materialism is not a direct opposite of spirituality. Sure, some philosophies and religions warn of the dangers of being too materialistic, it does not mean that the two fall under the same category. Besides that, by saying the westerns are materialistic and the easterns are spiritual, you are making sweeping generalizations about the members of the respective cultures. Not all people from the west are godless and materialistic, just as not all people from the east are spiritual and selfless.

Both. Eastern spirituality allows me the opportunity to unwind from having to deal with the Wester materialism that keeps me in a house.
