It is one type of guitar out of many. There are the same amount of strings as an electric guitar only an acoustic guitar does not use an amp. Also it can be played easier without a pick unlike an electric or bass guitar which can be difficult without one.

It produces carbon dioxide instead of oxygen? ;-)

An acoustic guitar also has a wooden hollow body unlike an electric or bass which are both usually metal and solid

Any guitar with a body that is a box (almost always irregularly shaped) and a hole(s) for sound to come out is an acoustic, or 'hollow body'. The other kind, the 'solid body' has no box to amplify the sound and depends almost entirely (you can hear it but it is very faint) on a powered amplifier. . There are also acoustic/electric guitars that have a hollow body but can be plugged into an amplifier for additional volume.
