Well it's understandable that they wouldn't want them on it at school, but as far as I'm concerned, they should have NO say WHATSOEVER on what students are "allowed" to do when they're not at school. That's none of their business.

I don't think this is okay! the school can't control what kids do outside school and what do they have with it! kids do what they want and school can't start banning kids for it!

IIRC, this is a private school that is doing it. If you don't toe their line, you can't attend. That's not right, but it is legal.

I can see why they are banning myspace usage at school, probably because it's so distractive.Once kids leave school, they should be able to make their own desicions, after all, myspace isn't THAT bad is it?

I think that I am going to be the odd man out here. If this were a public school, then I would agree that they don't have any right to tell the student what they can do outside of school. However, if this is a private school, then I think that they do have that right. Going to a private school is a choice. It is not something that one is forced to do. So, as part of that choice, one agrees to abide by the standards of the private school. If one does not want to live by the standards, then one should find another school whose standard one can live with. Personally, I think that banning students from using MySpace at home is getting a bit intrusive. That should be something that is left up to the parents to decide. However, if that is the standards that the school wants to set, then that is their decision. Now, it is up to the parents to decide if they want to send their children to a school that sets that as a standard. This is one of the advantages of allowing parental choice. If the parents don't like some aspect of a school, then they are free to send their children to another school that they do like. It's just too bad we can't get that same level of choice in the public school system.

I dont think it is ok in school and it shouldnt matter what you do at home. Its your home and you should do what you want and it shouldnt matter what age you are.
