Not too many, considering Aquinas was a very faith-based philosopher whereas Rand was arguably atheist.

In their works, yes. Most definitely St Thomas Aquinas writes of a human "freedom for excellence". Aquinas believes that people have the power to "build free and virtuous societies in which the rights of all are acknowledged, respected, and protected in law." Rand advocates similar notions in her works, especially Atlas Shrugged. Really, that's pretty much the entire focus of the book. Like Aquinas, Rand also feels that people are capable of building these societies. Both writers look towards human perfection. They both understand the struggle of the individual to this state. Excellent question. It's such an obvious connection that I'd just never noticed until you asked about it.

rand tends toward the objective whereas aquinas the subjective, inner experience. both argue for the potential of mankind and society. both rand and aquinas were absolutely, irrefutably brilliant thinkers both of whom rose above the masses and practiced what they preached, leading to reduced turmoil and greater peace. my 18 cents.
