It's true that some Israelis want peace, and so do some Palestinians, but there is lacking a CONCERTED wish or striving for peace amongst both these communities. That is why sooner or later sporadic fighting or attacks break out again, causing further enmity and rankling, and this has been happening consistently since 1917.

Probably not. The middle east region has been in turmoil since... forever, barring the periods of relative solidity while under a common ruler. Theres no way there will ever be peace unless some uniting factor comes in, or one of the conflicting parties in each of the conflicts is exterminated.

As long as Israel exists, there will be no peace in the middle east

If you go back and read the Old Testament accounts you will see God told the Isrealites to kill all the palestinians when they did battle with them. The Israelites did not do this so God said they would always be a thorn in their flesh. This bitterness has been going on for thousands of years because of disobeying God. You can take this for what it is worth if you believe in the history of the Old Testament. Remember this, the Old Testament is a history of the establishment of a chosen group of people by God and how they were to live. Yes, much of the Old Testament is bloody and brutal but it is the history of a people and how they became a nation.
