  • Good question. About the only answer anybody seems to be able to offer is "the alternative is even worse" (i.e. the Taliban). It's sort of a devil-you-know preference.
  • It's no worse to be Muslim than it is to be Christian. The point is that people should be free from persecution based on their faith (or lack thereof), color, ethnicity, sex or national origin.
  • i'm much much more concerned with our soldiers propping up a nation known to be heavy in to the narcotics trade. why have we sent our military for that? simple, corruption in our governments.
  • The population of Afghanistan are overwhelmingly Muslim. Therefore any government, other than one imposed by an occupier with extreme force, would be Islamic. You cannot change the religion of a country by force. Unfortunately, we have a choice between a somewhat rotten Islamic government, or a very rotten and violent Islamic government. Which not to say that Islamic governments are inherently rotten - but the two on offer in Afghanistan are. If we can establish the less rotten one, and pressure it to become steadily less rotten, that will be a good thing to do, bot for Afghanistan and for ourselves. But I am not sure that this is possible.
  • Why indeed? Religion has nothing to do with it - these idiots might as well be Buddhists or Christians for all the difference that would make - it's just that a war in Afghanistan is un winnable from the outset.
  • in regards to the "you tube" video, that was made shortly after the soviets had left Afghanistan. after they left, there was a power struggle, and what she said was pretty much true. the Taliban had began fighting to take control of the country, and she was speaking out against them. Oh, by the way, the US is responsible for the Taliban coming to power, we armed them to fight the soviets, and abandoned the country after the soviets left
