I have forgotten how to do this algorithmicaly: there are 3 slots each with 2 possibilites. what is the algorithm to calculate how many total possible combinations are there? i have done this manually and there are 8 combos, similary 4 slots yields 16 cmb

factorial is permutations, then combinations requires the removal of non chosen choices.

Multiply the possibilities of each together. 3 slots each with 2 possibilities: 2*2*2=8 4 slots each with 2 possibilities: 2*2*2*2=6
