  • There is oxygen at 12,000 feet. There is enough oxygen to support combustion at much higher altitudes than that as well. Civil airplanes operate as high as 51,000 feet or more. There is not enough oxygen for people to breathe normally above 12,000 feet without suffering the effects of lack of oxygen.
