  • I work for a publisher, and just asked someone from my marketing department for you. :) It actually depends. Some best seller lists don't work by how many books are sold, but it is relative to time, and how well it is selling in its category. Sometimes a publisher will just call their book a best seller, because they "think" it's selling well. Overall, it's a pretty meaningless term. There is no unanimous definition of best seller.
