Keep breathing - follow your doctors instructions, never leave your meds behind, if you have a bad attack, sit down, stay upright, call 000 or 911 or whatever depending on wherever you are. Pay attention to what caustes/triggers your asthma and learn to avoid that if possible. Good luck and keep breathing.

I would say invest in a Dyson vaccum cleaner, change the filters on your AC/heater and get on a program of anti-inflammatories that work well for you. Advair is one that worked well for me. My asthma is only seasonal but it's bad when it happens and right now it's at its worst. Asthma is chronic imflammation. Learn what things irritate your lungs the most and learn to steer clear of them. Vacuuming was really bad for me before I got the Dyson. Now my asthma only happens in spring. Good luck!

Educate yourself. Two good websites are http://www.nationaljewish.org and http://www.ginasthma.com Realize that asthma is a chronic condition that is composed of two parts...inflammation and flares(bronchospasms) and that both have to be treated. That just because you are not having flares doesn't mean there is not inflammation occuring that is damaging your bronchi and lungs (think high blood pressure and strokes). find a good doctor that will take the time to speak with you and explain and answer your questions. And realize that people who claim you can treat asthma without medication do not understand that silent inflammation is the underlying cause of asthma.

hi asker, the one who has recently been diagnosed with this frustrating disease, should follow what his/her doctor prescribes, but one thing that i strongly recommend you: bring some healthy changes into your lifestyle. i assure it won't cost you anything, just have a look : http://health.top54u.com/post/Natural-Cures-For-Asthma.aspx your doctor can only help you to combat your present situation, for your lifetime you need this health which you will have to maintain, whatever happens... take care, lol.

Follow your doc's instructions and you should be fine. Make sure to use preventitive steps too. If you have Exersize-induced asthma, take a puff of your rescure before you start your activity. Like if your a runner, use it once before you run so your lungs can handle the sport better.

Asthma is a chronic illness that is a result of inflammation and narrowing of the tubes (bronchi) in the lungs. First of all, it is important to follow the advice of your physician which should include an asthma action plan which provides specific details of what you should do when having certain symptoms. It is imperative to control asthma triggers. Triggers include colds, exercise, allergies, inhaled irritants (like smoke) and emotional stress. It is also important to use your medicine according to your physician's directions. Some asthmatics require daily inhaled steroids which do not work well unless used every day. You should learn how to properly use your rescue inhaler and nebulizer. Another thing to remember is get refills of your medications before you run out. You should also formulate an emergency plan with your physician so you know when to call 911 because asthma can be deadly. A medical ID bracelet is another good idea to tell others what your condition is should you be unable to communicate. For more information check out the website http://www.whatsasthma.org/.
