I worked once at a retail store, the guys rarely worked the registers because we were needed to unload heavy boxes when trucks came to the back, maintain the warehouse (more box moving), restock the shelfs (more box moving). Get the idea?
-
Men are usually doing the heavy lifting and bagging, and all of that stuff. I guess people still think women can't do that kind of stuff...
-
Because we're in the kitchen making food! (And lifting heavy boxes. HAHA) I've been on register a few times, it's not really my interest... the girls do a better job at being hospitable and nice to the customers than I do.
-
I guess it depends on what type of business you are referring to. At Quik Trip, almost all the cashiers seem to be men. At least that's the way it is here.
-
usually stores put females on register because they are on average more social and willing to talk to someone they dont know, guys like to be behind the scenes more and do the lifting of the boxes and whatnot
-
I don't know! There seem to be a lot of convenience stores around that have men as the cashiers, but it always seems that men are in the back somewhere (cooking, unloading things, etc) and the women are the ones who meet you at the counter. I noticed this way back when I used to work fast food. The kitchen was always full of guys and all the girls were at the counter or in the drive-through.

I see lots of them at home depot and hardware stores and sporting goods stores.
-
Or female mechanics?
-
because were bad with money
-
There seem to be quite a few in the UK particularly at weekends.

I work at a grocery store and there are only a couple male cashiers. The manager says that she likes females to be cashiers and males should work at the service counter or in one of the departments.
-
we're not nice enough to deal with customers
-
well i see plenty at target, not too many at macy's unless you count the shoes department...maybe it dpends on where you shop
-
I couldn't answer that one. I have four male cashiers that work for me, but no females.
-
You obviously don't live where I live. I've seen enough of them to realize that there are male cashiers. How often do you go to the store anyway?
