When I was very young there was a great kid's TV show...Time for Beany. It had Cecil the Seasick Seaserpent among other cast members. I believe Witchie Poo was also a cast member, though she may have been in another show. There were many black and white gritty, gutsy shows. I think it was The Golden Age of TV then and maybe because so much of it was new and uncharted the writers were able to be more creative, freer and therefore wrote of things that were more meaningful and real. Now we have "reality" shows. Ugh, yuck, aaarrrggghhh! :(

I grew up in the 1970's and back then TV was worth watching - ALL IN THE FAMILY, GOOD TIMES, THE JEFFERSONS, MAUDE, WELCOME BACK KOTTER, BARNEY MILLER, HAPPY DAYS, LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY...

We're talking back in the 50's and 60's in my case. They had much more rigorous censorship back then. I just don't think the slow-paced, gentle humor in shows like "Leave It to Beaver", "My Three Sons", "Ozzie and Harriet" and "Donna Reed" would make it in today's potty-mouthed, cutting edge entertainment field. Shows like "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons", that hardly raise an eyebrow today, wouldn't even have been allowed on the air 30 years ago.
