There were times when it was thought women had their place in homes and not in public life. Public life was considered male domain. In some countries even among males only property owners and tax payers were allowed to vote. The principle of universal adult franchise, the right of all adults to vote, came late. But when it came it corrected the anomalies in the voting system.
