    Cyanotic Wasp

    A "manifest" is a type of cargo document, such as a bill of lading for a railroad or truck, that details the contents of the shipment. (You could look that up.) So when the railroads were invented in 1822 and started regular service to California around 1838, that's when Eastern manufacturers realized that they could start shipping goods as fast as they could write the manifests, hence "Manifest Destiny".
