Why is the Euro now the official currency of Monaco, Andorra, San Marino and the Vatican, when none of these countries is a member of the EU?

None of these countires are really large enough to carry their own currency. Andorra has never actually had an official currency. ;)

Many of them used the currency of the country nearby them to begin with. But the EU is not the same thing as the European central bank. Some EU members retain their national currency, most famously the UK.
