That depends on what you consider to be valid learning - whether you think that a curriculum in itself is the learning goal, or whether you think that socialisation comes into the equation, or whether you think that learning is based on every day experiences.

hmm.. i have no figures or statistics to back up my arguments here, but to be honest, i would think that there is more to be learned in school - because of the aspects of socialisation, moving from place to place, understanding the requirements of different teachers/students, group work, pair work, peer assessment etc - all of this happens in addition to the curriculum.
BUT.. the learning that takes place in school can also be directly affected by the quality of the teaching and learning which is available in the school
