I watched my erstwhile mother do that with my step-father. Anything to not upset the ugly dear. "Oh, don't upset him he has a bad heart you know," (boy don't I know!!!), sorry just feeling sick and cringing thinking about it.... So I make a point of NEVER doing that. I SHALL NEVER overlook anything just to keep the peace. NOT EVER!!!

I think we all overlook some things just to keep the peace. However there are several things I could not overlook. I could not overlook abuse or infidelity.

There is a fine line between civility and peace. If the person or group in question has stepped over the line, they must be told so.

I grew up being backed into a corner verbally, so I am reluctant to stand up and be counted....but I do, when it is someone else in the firing line...especially children...

I only agree if I honestly agree. I do not let peace sway what I say.

I don't agree with anything I don't believe in or agree. But I don't make a war where one doesn't need to be. There are other options besides rushing headlong with your opposing thoughts, be tactless and hurt or anger someone. It is possible to disagree and be peaceable.

There are some things that cannot be overlooked-period. The majority of the time we need to choose the battles. Rule of thumb: "don't start none, won't be none" Meaning, Is the outcome, win or loose, worth the fight?
