While it's true that most males sing and most females do not this is not a universal rule. In the wild the females are a little duller and greyer than the males but selective breeding means that is not necessarily the case now for domestic canaries. That said, as Spring approaches the female's abdomen becomes more rounded and the male's becomes larger and protudes downward in the same direction as the legs. How on Earth one is able to tell these features apart I'm afraid I couldn't tell you. Truth is, they're hard to sex but keeping birds in cages and breeding animals for our fun is wrong. So, unless you've adopted a needy canary, don't prop up the industry.

Easy! The male canary tends to rap a lot,like Jay-Z does,and the femaly canaries sing so sweetly,like Beyonce. ......Or maybe it's the other way round,I've forgotten. It's some time since I've had any contact with canaries. Parrots...well,that's ANOTHER matter.
