  • Please forgive this flippant answer, but I had a similar situation, and after spending a few bucks for a professional cleaning service to come in (didn't work), I just went out and bought a brand-new toilet. The reason you want a "spotlessly clean" toilet, is because should you have overnight guests with whom you are hoping to have a continuing relationship of the sexual kind, the easiest way to turn the other person off, permanently, is to have a toilet that looks terrible. Sometimes, a person is judged by the appearance of their bathroom. Clean bathroom = clean person. +5
  • If your toilet is old(and it appears it is), nothing is going to help it besides the toilet graveyard. Lowes has a great selection of bathroom toilets. they will even install it for you.
  • Mensan, what exactly are you talking about? lool I figured out the toilet didn't lose its lacquer, but rather had a THICK layer of "limescale". I'm new to cleaning so these things are unknown to me. Anyway I found a pumice stone lying around and took it to the bowl. Voila, it started coming off in chunks, and the finish underneath was fine. Amazing because the "limescale" actually changed the texture to something that would resemble an unfinished toilet, and being new to cleaning, thought the bleach was to blame.
  • If it is stained and the finish is truly gone you can go to the pool supply store and get Muriatic acid. and pour a small amount in the bowl, carefully brush and flush. Careful because the acid is lethal and the fumes are horrendous. Don't ever use this on a toilet that isn't on it's way out if you can't get it clean. Because if there is a finish left to save, there won't be after you use the acid.
