  • Why? My mother was a teacher for forty years...and she raised five children. Yes, there was the "grandparenting" factor then, which was very common. She could not have done it without that cultural thing. But the grandparents were not "obligated". They wanted to do it. And they were well re-imbursed. And I remember my time with my grandparents very fondly. And it was only a matter of walking across the street to my dad's parents, and my mom's father would come and stay for a week or so at times to "fill in". I think I was a pretty "mature" five year old when I went to school. I had had a lot of input and "education" from some really great and wise people. I know it is more difficult for many professional women today...at least in the U.S.
  • I think its an individual decision. No ones job should define the person, the job is just a means to earn money and enjoy life. So if a woman wants to start a family its up to her no matter what the job. If others start taking away such basic rights to leave jobs and start familys its taking freedom of choice away.
  • Why do you pick out 'scientific' specifically? What about 'carers' (people who care for the disabled or people with learning difficulties) What about people who work in shops or the food industry or the hospitality industry? Why just scientific? (just curious) In answer to your question - no. I don't think any woman should have to leave their career because they decide to have a baby. I think it is a privledge (or even a right) to have a baby and go back to work - what ever the chosen career is. I also think it is up to the woman to decide whether they want to go back to work or not. As a scientific engineer who is a mother, I see no reason to leave my work. My child is now in secondary education with afterschool activities, more popular than I ever was and of course, beautiful inside and out. So again, my answer is no. Do you?
  • Of course they should, as a misogynist I beleive a woman's place is in the home not the lab j/k
