    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

A 2007 Department of Labor report says an automobile engineer can make between $45,170 and $104,900 annually. A bachelor's degree fetches a starting pay of $54,128 per year, while a master's degree will earn a starting pay of around $62,798. Ph.D. holders earn a salary of around $72,763, on average.

Whatever it is, it is a lot more than they are worth. Automobile engineers relentlessly eliminate simple and inexpensive devices and systems that work
reliably and are easy to repair if they break down and replace them with complex and expensive systems that seldom work as reliably and are so difficult to diagnose and repair that even trained mechanics are often baffled by them. Of course, in doing this they are only fulfilling the objectives of management that views parts and repair as a major profit center of any automobile dealership.
