An amplifier in a car acts as the power source to your sound system. Amplifiers use the power from your car's battery and are usually specified to your speakers in order not to blow them out. They can be used with any car stereo.
Features
An amplifier is classified according to its circuit design and the way in which its output stages are powered. Each class has its own characteristics and advantages.
Class A
Class A amplifiers produce high-quality sound, but they tend to run very hot and waste of a lot of energy because they constantly have some current running through them.
Class B
Amplifiers that are considered to be class B are better at conserving energy but can still be considered inefficient. Class B amplifiers are known to not have very high sound quality and can produce lots of distortion.
Class AB
Class AB amplifiers are the most common type of amplifiers in cars today. These types of amplifiers run much cooler than both class A and B and produce high-quality sound.
Class D
Class D amplifiers are much more efficient than all the previously mentioned classifications. While they are the most efficient, they can be lacking when it comes to sound quality. Class D amps are for people who want an efficient, energy friendly amplifier.
