Realistically - It is probably all to do with teacher targets, government targets, school league tables and various bureaucratic and unhelpful things like that.
To see the more helpful side - Taking a test at the end of a topic shows your immediate understanding. To take an end of year test is much harder, since it is a test of something you learned a long time ago - to see if it has really sunk in / that and revising helps it to sink in.
It's also great practice for the important end of school tests and university. I hated end of year exams at school, was very thankful for the practice by the time I got to take my leaving exams, and uni exams!
Its because they want to inflict all the pain that was inflicted on them back on us.

You're reading Why do we have to sit end of year exams? Why can't our results just be based on the tests we sit at the end of each topic?
