  • Realistically - It is probably all to do with teacher targets, government targets, school league tables and various bureaucratic and unhelpful things like that. To see the more helpful side - Taking a test at the end of a topic shows your immediate understanding. To take an end of year test is much harder, since it is a test of something you learned a long time ago - to see if it has really sunk in / that and revising helps it to sink in. It's also great practice for the important end of school tests and university. I hated end of year exams at school, was very thankful for the practice by the time I got to take my leaving exams, and uni exams!
