Patients who have to take broad spectrum antibiotics for a prolonged period of time often expierence gastrointestinal upset and develop fungal infections. What might be responsible for these side effects?

    Broad spectrum means they are not targeting a specific group of bacteria. In the stomach, there are many bacteria known as the intestinal Flora. The broad spectrum kills the good and bad bacteria, damaging the balance of the intestinal flora. This leads to other illnesses.
