On cell phones, you usually can dial "1" to access your voicemail. However, it is important to know your voicemail number if you don't have your phone handy and need to check messages. You might need your voicemail number when you travel or if your voicemail box is full.
Check Your Documentation
Look at the documentation given to you when you signed up for your plan. Phone-service providers give you a packet of information about their services, your bill and your particular plan. Somewhere in the documentation should be instructions on using your voice mail with a number to call to access it.
Call Customer Service
Call customer service to find out your voicemail number. Find the customer-service number in a variety of different places. The information you got when you signed up for your phone will tell you how to contact customer service. You will probably be asked to provide a few pieces of information such as your phone number, your account number, your Social Security number and your billing address. Some companies may ask for a password or PIN to give you information.
Check Your Instruction Book
Read through your phone's user's manual. Most instruction books have a section about checking voicemail and might include the voicemail number.
