Liquid crystal display (LCD) projectors offer users the flexibility to excel in both home entertainment and business applications--offering sharp picture quality in handling data applications, as well as video. History

LCD projectors got their start when Gene Dolgoff began working on a projector in 1984 that would be brighter than the offerings of CRT projectors--which were the current standard. Dolgoff used a liquid crystal to separate colors beamed from a projector lamp through light valve that regulated the light's intensity.

Claritity

The sharpness and clarity of LCD projectors edge out DLP projectors in data applications. According to Projector Central, while DLP projectors handle data applications well, there is a noticeable difference in a side by side comparison with the sharper images of LCD projectors.

Light Effeciency

LCD projectors are more light efficient than their DLP counterparts. LCD projectors emit more lumens--a measurement of light--per wattage than DLP projectors of the same rating. The higher light output of LCD projectors means that they can stand up to ambient light infiltration better than DLP projectors.

Vibrancy

LCD projectors are more vibrant than DLP projectors of the same luminance--edging DLPs in the hues and tones they project. Like the dedicated channels of a red, blue green (RBG) component video cable, the RBG panels of LCD projectors award them their vibrant color spectrum.

LCD vs Big Screen TVs

The major advantage of LCD projectors over big screen television is obvious--the display area. The similar, and in some cases better, picture quality of LCD projectors means you can bring the movie theater experience home--and measure your viewing area in feet, versus inches.
