Help answer this question below.
SLR stands for single-lens reflex, and in an advanced type of camera, that allows you to use change lenses. SLRs can be digital or film. If you are a serious photographer, you should seriously consider investing in an SLR instead of a point-and-shoot camera. Canon and Nikon are the two most well-known makers of SLR cameras. Other competitors include Sony and Olympus. SLR cameras use a mirror in back of the camera lens to bounce the picture to the viewfinder so you can see it before you take the picture. When you take a picture, the mirror moves to allow light to reach the film (in a film camera) or the sensor (in a digital camera). An SLR camera allows you to have greater control over the camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed and white balance. But they will also cost more than point-and-shoot cameras. SLR cameras have a higher image quality than point-and-shot cameras and are most versatile because you can change the lenses when you change what you are taking pictures of. SLR cameras are much larger than most point-and-shoot cameras and will not easily fit into your pocket so they are not as portable.Types
