  • SMS (Short Message Service) messages are written messages sent from one phone to another. Commonly known as text messages, most phones contain SMS capabilities, and most service plans have options that make SMS messaging possible. If you have SMS, viewing the history of the messages you have sent and received is easy.

    Viewing your SMS history

Step 1) Select the "messages" option on your phone. This option is located in a different area on almost every phone model, but it's almost always somewhere on the home screen. If you cannot find the messages option, check with your phone manual or ask your cell phone service company for help. Step 2) Once you have located the messages option, select "inbox." This will trigger a screen containing all the recent messages you have received. The number of messages your phone has stored depends on how much memory your phone reserves for SMS. In addition to containing the actual body of these messages, your phone will also tell you who sent the message (if the sender's name is stored in your address book), and the date and time the message was sent. Newer messages are on the top. Step 3) After viewing the messages you have received, you can explore the messages you have sent by going back to the main "messages screen" and selecting "sent." This screen is similar to the "inbox"; it also contains the body of the messages and the date and time they were sent. Step 4) If you think you have sent a message that doesn't appear on the "sent" screen, go back to the main "messages" screen and select "drafts." This section contains a list of all the messages that were either unfinished or unsent. Step 5) To delete a message you no longer want to keep on your phone, select the message, click "options" and click "delete." Deleting messages will help you preserve memory.
