Gambling can be a dangerous pastime that is just as addictive and damaging to life as the abuse of alcohol or drugs is for some people. Someone's outward appearance may not be affected as it would be with a drug problem, but some telltale signs of a gambling problem or addiction still exist. Problems gamblers often have deep financial problems but don't have anything to show for the money spent. No large or extravagant purchases exist, but the gamblers exhibit a noticeable lack of money. Someone with a gambling problem can run out of money soon after getting his paycheck. It's common for problem gamblers to look for loans from friends and family or an advance on their paychecks to place bets between pay periods. A gambling obsession or addiction can cause people to use their vacation time or sick days to spend more time at the track or casino looking for a big win. People who lie about their whereabouts when gambling or exaggerate the level of money they have either bet or lost could be suffering from a gambling problem. Problem gamblers give up on virtually all their other interests and hobbies and tend to even lose contact with family and friends when their obsession with gambling grows too strong.Unexplained Debt
