One of the earliest noticeable signs of pregnancy is breast pain or tenderness. Some women notice pain earlier than others, while others might not feel it at all. The tenderness normally tapers off after the first trimester, but it can last the entire pregnancy.
Before Implantation
Many women experience breast pain during and after ovulation. This means you might already be feeling tenderness before becoming pregnant.
Immediately After Implantation
Some women know they are pregnant when they feel their breasts get slightly tender, immediately after implantation. Others will not notice the tenderness until later.
One Week Later
Approximately 10 days after ovulation, or about a week after implantation, the body will produce enough pregnancy hormones to give a positive reading on a home test. This is also when most women will notice the onset of breast pain.
Nipple Sensitivity
Instead of breast pain, some women say that they have extreme nipple sensitivity at ovulation, implantation or when they get a positive result on a pregnancy test. Lanolin cream can relieve this discomfort.
Lack of Breast Pain
Some women never have pain in their breasts in early pregnancy, which does not mean anything is wrong or that you will not be able to breastfeed. Count yourself lucky if you never suffer breast discomfort.
Abnormal Pain
If pain comes from a red, hard, hot spot on your breast, you might have a clogged milk duct. See your doctor immediately to prevent serious infection.
