Changing your diet to include fresh herbs and herbal supplements can work to reduce triglyceride levels. High triglycerides contribute to high cholesterol levels which can lead to heart disease, stroke, heart attack, diabetes and many other complications.
Garlic
Garlic has been used for centuries to treat everything from infection to being a cancer preventative. The New York Medical College reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine, "we believe that garlic does indeed lower cholesterol levels" after thoroughly reviewing studies done on patients with high cholesterol levels.
Green Tea
Green tea has maximum benefits as an herb. It is an antioxidant, promotes blood vessel constriction and regulates blood sugar levels. One of its many benefits is that it lowers cholesterol leading to lower triglyceride levels.
Ginger
In a double blind study done on rats, mice and rabbits by the Babol University of Medical Sciences, it was found that ginger supplements significantly reduced cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper is filled with benefits including capsacin. This herb has been used to treat prostate cancer, lower blood pressure and aid in blood circulation. It helps the body excrete fats fast so that they are not absorbed into the cells causing high cholesterol levels and high triglyceride levels.
Other Herbs and Warning
Other herbs that have cholesterol and triglyceride lowering properties include artichoke leaf, guggul, olive extract and shiitake mushrooms. Before starting any herbal supplement, speak to your health care provider as some herbs may interact with medication you are already taking.
