Lawyer fees vary from city to city and state to state. There is no standard fee for bankruptcy. The fees charged by attorneys to file for bankruptcy on your behalf range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars plus court costs.
Geography
Depending on where you live and whether it is a large city or a small town, you will find attorneys charge different prices to assist clients with the process of filing for bankruptcy.
Types
There are several forms of bankruptcy that one can file for including Chapter 7, Chapter 11 and Chapter 13. The type of bankruptcy you are filing for will also affect the attorney's fees.
Court Costs
Regardless of what type of bankruptcy you are filing for and whether you use a high-priced attorney or low-priced one, you will be charged the fees associated with filing court documents. These fees usually cost a few to several hundred dollars.
Low End
On the lower end of the scale, there are attorneys who charge $200-$300 plus the court costs.
High End
If you choose a high-priced attorney, you are looking at a fee of several thousand dollars in addition to court costs.
