When someone says they are 'not in to material possessions', very often they mean they are in to material things, they just feel bad about it and keep telling themselves off for it and generally try not to think about it. This is a bloke, right? Forgive me if I'm wrong. I mean, he wears clothes, and washes and shaves, and doesn't live under a rock, right? He wouldn't go out in pink floral blouses? So he IS in to material things a little bit, AND he has some judgement about some things being nicer than others. You just have to bypass the statement and look a little harder. If he's into meditation, get him a large, soft cushion for sitting on the floor. If he's into the great outdoors, get him a foam camping mat so he can do his sitting down out there. If he's always taking notes then get him a pen, or a pad. If he favours a religion or philosophy, get him a book token from the kind of store that supplies to his beliefs. If you know what deodorant or body spray he uses then get him some of that. Socks are always useful. Guys put toes through socks faster than you can say boo. If he wears them, get him a friendship bracelet (a stylish one might cost you a fair bit, but he'll more likely see it as a sweet little token).

...I wouldnt really consider musical instruments to be material possessions... Cuz me personally...I dont care about cloths, or perfume, or makeup, or handbags, or cars...or any of the sorts. BUT..I love to play music. I would dig a new guitar, or a new keyboard...or even just a new book to learn out of. I like to listen to music so I always enjoy a good classic Cd...(the beatles, the doors, pink floyd, lynyrd skynyrd...) Cuz that never goes out of "style". I also am a food enthusiest so I love going out to eat at a new place ive never ate before, but I only like good food...so its gotta be something tasty. Not always expensive cuz some of the cheapest of places tastes a Hell of alot better than the expensive ones. Also I dont mind a new pair of running shoes, cuz I do enjoy running...(or just money so I can get what I want)... But those are just a few idea's.
