Yes,I write mine off, when I remember to save the receipts.
Being self-employed does NOT mean you can automatically write off your meals! Meals must be business related and closely associated with business. Example, I'm trying to get a company to let me do their payroll, so I take out the owner and his wife; we talk about the payroll prospect during dinner. OR the owner and I have a meeting prior to dinner. BUT everything must be documented in the event of an audit: who, what, when, where, why. And if there is not a business reason, the meal will be disallowed. If allowed, it's 50% of the cost, so you are still not writing off all of the meal cost!
In my experience it's usually because a small business owner puts in so much extra time trying to stay afloat that they are just to tired to cook. Deductions are good but a small business needs so much more personal time that you don't always have a choice. Take away is sometimes the only option after a long day.
