i like carpet for rooms where you might lay on the floor (living room, bedroom) but i like tile or hardwood for high traffic areas or areas where there could be a lot of spills.

Regular wooded floors. I think they can be elegant and still be regular floors at the same time

For main rooms I love a light colored hardwood floor. They tend to show scratches and dust less. For a bedroom I like berber carpet- it's comfortable and very easy to maintain.

It really depends (from a design point at least) upon the several factors. The budget is the final say in many cases. Also, the "Intended Use" of the floor combined with what the overall style of the home is going to be. You wouldn't set rustic Mexican pavers in an Early American furnished house...won't give you "the look" you are shooting for. By the same token, I wouldn't have marble flooring (not even fake marble) in a home with Mission Styled furniture. You need to consider too what's the traffic in the house like, kids...pets? What will your flooring expect in care and abuse? Personally I love wood flooring, standard and wide planked. I love reclaimed wood too...from old barns or buildings that has been remilled, recycled and reused...I think it's beautiful. Bamboo too is a great floor, as is cork...cork is also a sustainable product so I love that and it has an outstanding life span. Personally, I'm looking more and more in to GREEN products with regards to home improvements and new building. But the bottom line for most people MUST include budget...you can't buy, what you can't afford! I prefer some sort of "hard" floor with hand woven area rugs over wall to wall carpet...I have animals and not only to I like the look, it's also easier to keep clean!

Varnished Wooden Floor or Psychedelic Carpet.

It depends on the style of the room. I Like heated tiles for kitchens, interlocked wooden flooring for bathroom, old reclaimed stained floor boards or wooden floor in main parts of house, with nice cosy rugs. Carpet up the stairs and carpets in the bedrooms

Having a busy house I switched a bit of it to pergo and my life got tons easier. I would choose true wood but with a 100+lb dog, teens and such there was no way.

I once thought that I liked ceramic tile floors, but now that I've got it... not so much. For those of us that enjoy walking around in bare feet, it's pretty hard on the knees and feet. I think I would like wooden floors -love the way they look, but then again, carpets and rugs are probably the best bet for me -comfort wise.

I like a really good quality vinyl flooring for kitchens, Pergo and area rugs for high-traffic areas, hardwood and area rugs for living and dining rooms, and carpet for the rest of the house. I do have marble flooring in one bathroom, but I don't think I'd put any more of it in.

Like Redhawk, I'm tending more to the "green" woods too. Bamboo is really beautiful I think. I also really like rustic, handmade tile like the Mexican pavers. I read in one of Alexandra Stoddard's books that our floor must connect us with the earth. Not just in material, but in color. The floor of our home is the "ground" and needs to retain a logical connection. I made the mistake of getting blue carpet in much of my house and I think a lot of my dissatisfaction with it is because it so "un-natural".

Rustic wooden long boards with a redwood stain.

I like a wood floor best. It's beautiful, durable, soft on the feet, and easy to care for. I also like bamboo which is extremely durable and beautiful.
