Yes, someone sent me that link too, and I loved it. For me, the "early" 1960s was better than the late 1960s. More innocent, clean, and traditional, which I like. I didn't like the coming of the hippy years, which started around 1967 onwards. 1960-1963 were the best years, the "Golden Years" as they say.

What a load of horseapples. Here we go with the "Ozzie and Harriet" 'good old days gig again. This dude obviously never lived in the early sixties.

Yep, the Sixties.... They were *great* if you were white, male, middle-class or wealthier, and not sent to Vietnam. But if you were Black, Latin American, Asian, female, or poor, they were not all that great. Furthermore, the author left out a few things. In the 1960s... ---The top marginal tax rate was NINETY-ONE PERCENT! President Kennedy reducing that to 70% was a big deal. Now, people scream "SOCIALISM!" when Obama proposes to let the Bush-era cut from 39.6% to 36% expire. ---The work force was heavily unionized. ---The minimum wage, in constant dollar terms, was at an all-time high. ---There were very few regulations guaranteeing the safety of our air, our water, our food, our drugs, etc. (Thalidomide babies, anyone?) ---We had relatively high trade barriers, which discouraged US companies from off-shoring their production. "Made in Japan" was a pejorative for cheap junk in those days. ---There were no such thing as hostile takeovers, junk bonds, hedge funds, credit-default swaps, CDOs, financial derivatives, leveraged buyouts, etc. in the 1960s. Even credit cards were something that only seriously rich people used. ---Etc., etc., etc. This is where the "Leave to Beaver trip back to the 50s" people get it wrong. It wasn't that people had better morals then. It was that The System was set up where people with decent morals had a shot at "The Good Life". It's not that people have changed. It's the system. . . .

It's cute, it's nostalgic and it's forgetting the people who we were protesting about missing the wonderful 50's 40's and 30's. I lived the 60's and trust me, it wasn't all that great. The Viet Nam war was at its height. Racism was at it's peak, my best friend was killed in Viet Nam after he got drafted. Charlie Manson was the harbinger of the end of the 60's. It was fun but it was a mess too.
