Sounds like the radiator may be plugged.
If you disconnect hoses (with the engine off) will water run from the upper inlet to the lower outlet?
Sounds like you thermostat. I would just get a new one and replace it. It's easy to do.
Try looking at your thermostat first you can take it out and put in a pan wait and see if it opens up if so then it is okay if not this can be part of the issue

You're reading I have a 2001 monte carlo, hot coolant temp warning comes on, the car overheats, but the bottom radiator hose is cold and the upper hose is hot. Anyone know whats wrong
