Your Malibu is equipped with GM's passlock vehicle theft deterrent system. The ignition cylinder is designed to send a signal to the computer when the correct key is used to start the car. If the cylinder is forced or tampered with, the correct signal is not sent and the vehicle will not start. The most likely cause of your problem is the passlock lock cylinder. There could also be a problem with the wiring. The best thing to do would to take your vehicle to a GM dealer and have them diagnose the problem. You could put a lock cylinder in it but if it is a wireing issue, you will have spent a lot of money for nothing. If you want to take on this problem yourself send me an email (address is in profile) and I can get you some more info.
